Residential Trash/Garbage Pickup and Bulk Waste Collections

The City of Zachary contracts with Waste Management of Louisiana for regular garbage and trash collection. Residential curbside garbage/solid waste pickup is conducted twice a week. Garbage/solid waste includes any useless, unwanted, or discarded materials that are not free-flowing liquids and originate from domestic activities.

Bulk waste collection is provided bi-monthly through a contract with Waste Depot, LLC, for all residents and small commercial businesses. Bulk waste collection for those north of Main Street/Hwy. 64 occurs on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month, while those south of Main Street/Hwy. 64 have pickups on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays. Each household or business can dispose of up to 6 cubic yards of bulk waste, which can include tree limbs and trunks (not exceeding 45 lbs or 6 feet in length), pre-bagged green waste, leaves, flowers, stalks, stems, tree trimmings, white goods, and furniture. Bulk waste does not include construction debris, tires, auto parts, or garbage. Waste Management and Waste Depot observe Christmas Day as a non-collection holiday. If your collection day falls on Christmas, pickup will occur on the next business day.

Residents may also dispose of garbage, trash, and bulk items at the East Baton Rouge Parish North Landfill, located at 16001 Samuels Road in Zachary. The landfill operates Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Residents can dispose of household garbage up to four times per month for free. Bulk items like demolition debris or building materials incur a tipping fee of $28 per ton, or $14 for up to 1,000 pounds. For inquiries, contact the EBRP North Landfill at 225-389-4813.

The City of Zachary partners with Waste Management to provide weekly residential recycling services. Collection days are assigned based on your location and fall on either Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday.

🗑️ Recycling Cart Guidelines

All recyclables must be placed in the 96-gallon green with gold lid recycling cart.

• These carts are serviced by automated trucks, replacing the older rear-load system.
• Place your garbage and recycling carts at least three feet apart from each other and any obstructions.
• Place your cart curbside the night before your scheduled pickup, as collection begins at 5:00 a.m.
• Recyclables should be emptied loose into the cart—no bags or liners.

Residents may keep their old 18-gallon bins, but WM will no longer collect recyclables from them once the new carts are in use.

• Waxy frozen food packaging, take-out containers, light bulbs, mirrors, window glass, drinking glasses, ceramics, Pyrex

• Batteries, foam cups/containers, food or liquids
