City Services
Responsibilities: The Department of Public Works in Zachary oversees the maintenance of various city infrastructure components, including:
- Drainage Systems: Ditches, canals, creeks, drains, culverts, catch basins, and sinkholes related to drainage.
- Road Infrastructure: Potholes, bridges, streets, shoulders, curbs, and sidewalks (only if damaged by city work or workers).
- Right-of-Way Areas: Trees, blind corners, neutral grounds, and removal of trash on medians and roadways.
- City Properties: Slope mowing, grass cutting, and trash removal.
- Signage: Installation and replacement of traffic and street signs on city rights-of-way.
Additional Duties:
- Storm and Flood Management: Sandbagging operations and setting out barricades for weather-related events.
- Public Events: Providing support as needed for city-sponsored events.
Waste Management: The department oversees a contract with Waste Management for solid waste collection, offering curbside, automated garbage/solid waste pickup twice a week for each residential home. Bulk Waste Collection: Bi-monthly bulk waste collection is available to residents and small commercial businesses through a contract with Waste Depot. For collection day inquiries, contact the City of Zachary Public Works Utilities Office at (225) 654-1902.
Correctional Assistance: A cost-effective contract with the Department of Corrections ensures weekly trash pickup and grass cutting along roadways.
Parish Road Maintenance: The Parish of East Baton Rouge provides maintenance along parish roads within Zachary's limits. Issues can be reported to the Citizens Service Department at (225) 389-3090 or online at 311.brla.gov. Parish-maintained roads include:
- McHugh Road
- Rollins Road
- Port Hudson Pride Road
- MacHost Road
- Barnett Road
- Brian Road
- Flonacher Road
- Plains Port Hudson Road
- W.J. Wicker Road
State Road Maintenance: The State of Louisiana (DOTD) maintains state roads within Zachary's limits. Report state highway issues by calling 1-877-452-3683 or emailing dotdcs@la.gov. The DOTD center operates Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. State-maintained roads include:

- Plank Road
- Hwy. 964
