Team-Up To Clean Up
Posted by zachary on September 29, 2022
On Saturday, September 24th, the ZHS Beta Club teamed up with community members to collect unsightly litter. The team chose an area next to a dry detention basin on Bob Odom Drive. Here, they collected numerous bags of trash that had blown into the drainage basin from the nearby Dollar Tree Store. During the clean-up, Alaina Boudreaux, Dollar Tree Store Manager, personally greeted the volunteers, thanking them for their efforts and rewarding them with Gatorade. While at the clean-up, Police Chief David McDavid assisted the store manager with issues related to illegal trash dumping into their on-site dumpster. He suggested ways to secure the dumpsters and offered other safety advice. In addition to this area, the group collected trash and litter in the servitude near the Walmart entrance and parking lot areas.
Litter damages our environment, our image, and our quality of life. The problem of trash in our city results from individual actions that directly impact our local economy. Litter can also lead to increased crime; it signals to criminals that residents don’t care what happens in their neighborhood and makes the area more vulnerable.
The City of Zachary is pleased to collaborate with ZHS Students and community members in this ongoing clean-up effort. In October, the City of Zachary will proudly sponsor two students attending the 2022 State Keep Louisiana Beautiful Conference. We look forward to learning about proven practices and innovative programs designed to achieve a cleaner, greener, and more resilient city.
