Governor Issues Statewide “Stay at Home” Orders

Posted by zachary on March 22, 2020

As Mayor of the City of Zachary, I would like to ask all citizens in the City of Zachary to please comply to orders issued today by Governor John Bel Edwards. The “Stay At Home Order” will be effective Monday, March 23rd at 5 pm and go through Sunday, April 12th.  Like Governor Edwards, it is also my opinion that nobody should wait until tomorrow to comply with these orders, the time is now.

In this order, he is asking for public gatherings of only ten or less persons, and to not gather in crowds. I am asking you to not take this action lightly, limit your gatherings now.  All citizens are being asked to stay at home unless it is absolutely necessary to leave. You can leave your home to do essential things, such as purchasing groceries, medicine, attending doctor’s appointments, picking up food at drive-through, curbside or take-out restaurants, or  going to work if you are deemed essential on your job. If you have to go out, make sure you practice social distancing by keeping 6 feet between you and another person. It is critical to the health and well-being of our community that you take these measures seriously.

Walking outside, riding your bike, and walking your dog is still acceptable and encouraged. The risk of spreading the virus is less outdoors because there’s more space. This is all aimed at people who are healthy, as the Covid-19 virus is infectious. Remember to keep your distance to 6 feet, even on a walk.

All City of Zachary buildings are limiting their access to only emergency situations. Calls will continue to be answered between regular business hours, 7 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Thursday.
