Get Storm Ready!!! If you have items you wish to dispose of prior of the storm, the North Landfill is your immediate answer. They are open year-round and located only 6 or so miles from our city.
The North Landfill is free for East Baton Rouge Parish residents to bring yard waste, wood waste, used furniture, large household waste items, garbage or trash generated at the residential level which do not fit into standard collection containers. All you need is proof of residence, such as a driver’s license or water bill. The North Landfill is located at 16001 Samuels Road. Hours of operation are from 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. The landfill is closed on Sunday.
Additionally, Waste Management is contracted out by the City of Zachary to provide curbside collection of containerized or bagged residential waste two times per week to each home. Waste Management will accept up to a total of six (6) bags or containers two (2) times per week.
The Waste Management boom truck, which collects larger amounts of debris is offered one (1) time per week. The boom truck will collect up to 2 cubic yards, no larger than 4 foot in length and 35 lbs. Remember, Waste Management does not collect construction debris, dead animals, tires, tree limbs and/or trunks greater than 35 lbs. in weight, and tree limbs and/or trunks generated by a hired contractor. All tree, shrub and lawn trimmings need to be securely tied together forming an easily handled package.
As you are prepping for the storm, keep these things in mind and take some simple steps to secure your home, and reduce the creation of storm-related debris.
