Caring Minds Counseling & Consulting Services Third Annual Suicide Awareness Walk

Dr. Christy Mamou Hunt addressed the Mayor and City Council at their meeting on September 10th, where she accepted a proclamation declaring September 2024 as Suicide Prevention Month and September 10th as World Suicide Prevention Day in the City of Zachary. Dr. Hunt, a dedicated advocate for suicide awareness, is hosting the third annual Suicide Awareness Walk, organized by Caring Minds Counseling & Consulting Services, on Saturday, September 28th, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Downtown Zachary. The walk will begin at the Downtown Gazebo on Virginia Street, and Dr. Hunt invites citizens to join this important event.

Before the walk begins, brief remarks will be given by Dr. William “Beau” Clark, MD, East Baton Rouge Coroner, Tonja Myles, community activist, and Lacy Baaheth, broker. For registration and sponsorship details, please contact Christymamou@gmail.com.

This event aims to raise awareness about the alarming rise in suicide rates, challenge the stigma surrounding mental health, and provide vital resources for suicide prevention. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), over 49,000 people tragically lost their lives to suicide in 2022, equating to one death every 11 minutes. Additionally, 13.2 million people seriously contemplated suicide, 3.8 million developed a plan, and 1.6 million attempted suicide. Suicide remains the second leading cause of death among individuals aged 10 to 24.

Let’s come together and unite for the third annual Suicide Awareness and Prevention Walk on September 28th in Downtown Zachary.  Free food, live DJ, resources and fitness session!
