The “Butterfly Society Garden”, raising awareness about domestic violence was officially dedicated on Monday, June 13th at Zachary Youth Park Bronco Circle.

The Butterfly Society, a nonprofit domestic violence organization partnered with the City of Zachary by planting a purple butterfly garden at the Zachary Youth Park. The Butterfly Garden is dedicated to victims and survivors of domestic violence. “This garden will serve as a tribute to the lives lost through domestic violence and will serve as a place to be inspired and to inspire others,” says Mayor David Amrhein.

Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women between the ages of 15 and 44 in the United States. One in every three women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime and one in every four men have been victims of some form of physical violence by an intimate partner within their lifetime. “Our goal is to stop domestic violence and continue to spread awareness,” said says Twahna P. Harris, Executive Director of The Butterfly Society.

The Butterfly Society’s mission is to educate, advocate for legislation, provide direct services and partner with other agencies to end domestic violence. They provide advocacy, information and referrals, outreach, safety planning and support group services.
