BREC Unveils $1.5 Million Renovation Project at Church Street Park

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on December 27th to unveil an extensive $1.5 million renovation project at the BREC Church Street Park. The project has been met with many difficulties since it began in 2015, including the flood of 2016, COVID-19, and an unnamed storm in 2020.

Amenities include:

        - New pavilion
        - Improved restrooms
        - Indoor and outdoor basketball court
        - Lighted baseball field
        - Additional program space
        - Storage areas
        - New court flooring
        - New electrical system
        - New sign

The project also added energy-efficient doors and windows and air conditioning for the first time! It was an emotional day for Mayor McDavid, as his 82-year-old mother has worked for BREC for over 50 years. He remembers using the park to practice basketball and attending summer camps as a child. McDavid highlighted how many children in our community have benefitted from everything BREC offers and the difference it continues to make in our city. “I would like to thank BREC for their solid partnership with the City of Zachary,” said Mayor David McDavid.

Officials attending the ribbon cutting included Zachary Councilwoman Ambre DeVirgilio, Zachary Police Chief Darryl Lawrence, State Representative Barbara Carpenter, and Baker Councilwoman Brenda Jackson.
