City of Zachary Proclaims July Parks and Recreation Month

Mayor David McDavid officially proclaimed July "Parks and Recreation Month" in the City of Zachary. Parks and recreation promote health and wellness, improving physical and mental health. Parks and recreation are fundamental to our community's environmental well-being, and the City of Zachary recognizes the benefits derived from parks and recreation resources.

Mayor McDavid and Members of the Zachary City Council presented the proclamation to BREC business manager Chris Marchiafava during the City Council's July 11 meeting. In addition to the many BREC parks in our City, the City is proudest of the Zachary Youth Park, which offers programs year-round for youth and adults. The Zachary Youth Park, located at 1650 East Mount Pleasant Road, provides facilities for baseball, softball, a half-mile walking track, a playground, and picnic areas.

In 2019, the City opened the HugYourPeople Community Park on Lee Street @ Virginia Street downtown. Many families widely use the beautiful tree-lined memorial park, which includes playground equipment for younger children. The park is also home to the Zachary Farmer's Market and Movies In the Park.
