What do I need to know to build a home in Zachary?

Can I build my own home or do I need a licensed contractor? 
The State of Louisiana has passed Legislation that allows a homeowner to act as their own builder/contractor, under certain provisions.  See the Louisiana State Licensing Board website for requirements. www.lslbc.louisiana.gov

I want to build a new business in Zachary, what do I need to do to get a permit?

How much does a residential permit cost? 
All costs associated permitting a residential home can be found in the Residential Plan Review, which can be downloaded from this site.

How much does a commercial permit cost?  All costs associated permitting a commercial business can be found in the Commercial Plan Review Packet, which can be conveniently downloaded from this site or picked up at the City of Zachary Inspections Department, located at 4650 Main Street. What building procedures do I need to obtain a permit for at my residence?
Fences, accessory buildings- attached or not attached, swimming pools, generators, outdoor kitchens.

What building procedures don’t I need to obtain a permit for at my residence? 
Decks, aluminum patio covers, above ground swimming pools, pre-fab buildings, new roofs.

What do I need to do to move a trailer into the Zachary city limits?

What is the timeline for obtaining a final home inspection?
Generally, if you call the Inspection Department before 2:00 p.m. you will receive an inspection on the same day.   Any calls received after 2:00 p.m. will be performed the following day.

What flood zone am I in and do I need flood insurance? Contact Amy Shulze, Floodplain Manager for the City of Zachary at 225 654-1935.

What are your office hours?  The Inspections Department is open from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

What codes are enforced by the City of Zachary?  The State of Louisiana has mandated statewide enforcement of the codes with amendments as listed in the State Uniform Construction Code.  As of January 2016, these codes are the 2012 International Residence Code, 2012 Mechanical Code, 2012 Plumbing Code, 2011 National Electrical Code and 2012 Building Office Code.  For further explanation: http://lsuccc.dps.louisiana.gov/
