Zachary Named 2nd Safest “Big” City in Louisiana by ValuePenguin

Zachary has just been named the 2nd Safest "Big" City in Louisiana by Consumer Research Company ValuePenguin, due its low rates of violent and property crime. The city was also ranked 16th safest overall.
To rank these places, ValuePenguin analysts collected data from the FBI. The raw data included property crimes (burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson), and violent crimes (murder/manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault) from all law enforcement agencies that chose to partake in the FBI Uniform Crime Reporting program.
The data was then standardized to reflect violent and property crimes per 100,000, to account for population, and a “crime score” was calculated by weighting violent crime at 80% and property crime at 20%. Though property crime is more prevalent, ValuePenguin analysts gave violent crime more significant weightage since violent crime tends to be more concerning to citizens. The crime score was finally adjusted for population size, giving more slack to larger cities, and ranked.
Zachary's ranking in the ValuePenguin study is a cause for celebration for their hard working police department for a job well done, and should serve as a barometer for residents, visitors and businesses who wish to understand the safety level of their community.
“This award was received because of the hard work and dedication of the men and women of the Zachary Police Department, and the great citizens that live here. OUR GOAL IS TO MAKE ZACHARY THE SAFEST COMMUNITY TO RAISE A FAMILY AND TO OPERATE A BUSINESS,” says Zachary Chief of Police David McDavid.
