Posted by zachary on July 14, 2016
By rolling forward the millage, the City of Zachary should bring in an additional $330,000 a year to address the needs of our growing city. This is the first increase in millage in at least a decade. Currently the average homeowner owing a $200,000 house in Zachary pays approximately $50 a year to the City of Zachary for infrastructure needs, including police and fire. Under the new millage rate, this tax amount will increase to approximately $80 a year. City expenses have grown rapidly as our population and growth has boomed in recent years. The 5.64 mills is the maximum the city could set without voter approval.
