Posted by zachary on November 14, 2016

Come kickoff the holiday season and join Zachary Mayor David Amrhein as he welcomes everyone to the “Annual Zachary Christmas In The Village” Celebration on Friday, December 2nd from 6 – 9 p.m.  The holiday event will take place in the Zachary Historical District, located on Virginia Street behind City Hall including Main Street, from the Fire Station to Lee Street. This year’s event, “Down on the Farm”, will feature a traveling petting zoo offering children an opportunity to learn and play with real-life farm animals. The village will come alive with synchronized Christmas light displays, a live nativity hosted by Zachary United Methodist Church, Christmas movies on the big screen, Christmas performances and music, a visit from Santa and meet and greet LPB sponsored characters, “Clifford The Big Red Dog and Emily Elizabeth”, “Elmo”, “Super Why!”, and “Curious George and the Man with the Yellow Hat”.

“We are proud to partner with Louisiana Public Broadcasting, who offers informative, educational and entertaining programming for families and children of all ages,” says Mayor David Amrhein.  In addition to the characters, LPB will also be featuring the Curious George Christmas Movie, “A Very Monkey Christmas” on the big portable screen, located behind the City Hall Annex Building. Christmas performances by local dance studios, area churches and school choirs will surely get you into the holiday spirit, providing musical and dance entertainment throughout the night at the gazebo in the village.  Children are invited to write their Christmas wish lists to Santa and mail them at the mailbox near the McHugh House. Toys for Tots, sponsored by Zachary High School and The U.S. Marine Corps will be on location collecting toys for those in need.

Other activities include an arts and crafts area, so bring your Christmas list!  Tours of the Historic Village homes, McHugh House and Allison House, as well as the Old General Store will be open offering a glimpse of the past, living in a small town during the early 19th century. The gourmet food trucks will be returning on location in the City Hall Parking Lot on Main Street.  The mobile trucks in attendance will be Pull’N Pork, Rico Sauve, Datz Pizza, Tuckers Seafood, Tramonte’s, Express Carribean and desert trucks, Cup Cake Allie, City Gelato and Frozen Lemonade.  The Zachary High Robotics Club will be selling hot chocolate and fresh popcorn.

A holiday LED light show, featuring thousands of blinking and twinkling lights synchronized to Christmas music will run every evening from 6 pm to 10 pm in the Zachary Historical District.  Motorists are invited to set their radio dials to 105.9 FM and drive through Zachary’s Historic Village, starting December 2nd through January 8th.

The Zachary Christmas Parade, sponsored by the Zachary Chamber of Commerce will be held on Saturday, December 10th at 10 a.m.  “A Salute To Our Heroes” is the theme for this year’s parade.  Parade entry forms are available at
